Track and Field


In 1923, the amateur athletic union sponsered the first major outdoor track field meet for women at Newark, New Jersey. Winners in the meet 1923, meet were Frances Rupert, Hazel Kirk, and the Meadowbrook club team of Philadelphia, Helen Dinnehey, and Bertha Christophel. Also in 1925, on July 11 the first woman to clear the five foot barrier in the high jump was Phyllis Green of Great Britain.
