Goalie mask and more field hockey


In 1927, Elizabeth Graham from queen's university had worn the first ever goalie mask. The mask consisted of a wire fencing mask to protect her face during collegiate games. This trend had gone further and a male name Jacques Plante began to wear a face mask in every single game. Also in 1927, the international federation of Women's field hockey associations is formed to have competition for teams from the U.S, Ireland, Scotland, and England.

Tennis


Hazel Hotchkiss Wightman established the International Women's Tennis team competition known as the Wightman Cup. The United States and Great Britain played the first match at Forest Hills, New York. The results of the match were U.S 7 and Great Britain 0. They pulled out a great victory.

Golf


One of the women who made it far in the sport known as Golf was Glenna Collett. She won many golf championships in the twenties, 1922, 1925, 1928, 1929, and even into the thirties she won championships. She was a member of the Golf Hall of Fame. She was also a member of the United States of the United States Curtis Cup team, she had been the captain.

Track and Field


In 1923, the amateur athletic union sponsered the first major outdoor track field meet for women at Newark, New Jersey. Winners in the meet 1923, meet were Frances Rupert, Hazel Kirk, and the Meadowbrook club team of Philadelphia, Helen Dinnehey, and Bertha Christophel. Also in 1925, on July 11 the first woman to clear the five foot barrier in the high jump was Phyllis Green of Great Britain.

Parachute Jumping


In 1921 Phoebe Fairgrave became the first woman to do a double parachute jump. She cut away her first chute and opened a second. In the thirties she oragnized a group of women fliers who mad an impact on the country which urged communities to paint the name of their town in large white letters on a rooftop to aid pilots in navigations.

Swimming


The first women to achieve full Olympic staus were Female Swimmers of the 1920's. Ethelda Bleibtrey held the world record in the 100-yard backstroke when the female swimming was added to the Olympics. The only three events able to compete were the 100 meter and 300 meter freestyles and the 4 by 100 meter freestyle relay. Ethelda took part in all three events. She also won gold medals in all events.

Field Hockey.


The very first women's field hockey team to compete internationally was the All-Philadelphia team. Even though their application to the 1920 olympics was rejected they would play in an English Tournament. They're sucess had not been sucessful but they did put a new look on the sport known as Field Hockey.
